SEO – what is it and what does it mean for your company?
Where to start…. Good question, let us see. Did you know there are over 200 ranking factors?
Our goal is to try and explain SEO in an easy and not complicated way, so it would fit my audience. Therefore will we only explain the most necessary things in SEO that can help you in the right direction for organic growth.
This is going to be a long page, so please look in the cable of content to find out exactly what you wanna know.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization and that is how you can be found when somebody is searching or googles for your company. When somebody asks what we are working with then we explain it like this: when you are searching for something on the internet, then it is our job to make sure they see your webpage in the search results and then click on your page.
But that is just the first part of it, the next part is that your users stay on your homepage and in the end convert, it doesn’t matter if the convert is to contact you or buy something on your homepage.
How can the user find me in the search results?
You know when you are searching for something then are you writing one or some words – that is keywords (KW). They are still important for the Text on your homepage but not as important as before.
There are two types of keywords (KW):
- “Normal” KW
- Long-tail keyword
We are using these KW to find out how many times per month where persons are searching for a keyword per country. That information can you find in Google Keyword Planner.
Therefore you have to a keyword research, which is very important.
How do I conduct a keyword research?
There are different ways you can do a KW research. There is a lot of tools that can give you related or synonyms for the KW you are thinking on. Some of them are free x times per day and others cost money. You can also search on your KW and then see which words your competitions are using.
Here are some free tools
- Google Keywords Planner – if you have an account
- Answer in the public
Here are some tools where you have to pay.
- SEMRush
- Afreh
- Sistrix
Just remember there are more tools that I’m writing here.
Who do I use keywords in my content?
For your content should you have one main keyword and not more than six secondary keywords, all depending on how long your content is going to be. I a lot of companies and agencies are using TDIF as a rule of how and when to place your KWs, but TDIF is not a ranking factor and after the Bert update where the algorithm better understand the context, then it is not necessary to have all those rules, but that is after my opinion.
I only have a few rules:
- Main KW has to be most times in the content
- Main KW has to be in the first or the second headline
- Only use the KWs when it is relevant
What is the SERP?
The SERP is standing for Search Engine Result Pages, so when you are searching for a keyword then is the SERP what you are getting. Here can you see the snippet there is giving you a short explanation of what the homepage can offer you.
What is a snippet?
A snippet consists of two parts a Title tag and a meta description.
The title tag is the link you can click on to get to the homepage. The title tag can not be more than 60 charters with spaces or 658 px. You should write your title tag with the call-to-action (CTA) the user is going to click on it. When you are writing the title tag think of the user or yourself, what makes you want to click on a link? Also, remember to place your main keyword in the title tag.
The meta description is a short teaser for what the user can read on your page. The meta description can not be more than 150 charters with spaces or 2126 px. I won’t use much time on writing the description, because a study has shown that Google only uses your description 30 % of the time. That is good for if your user is searching for a synonym of your KW then will Google take the part of your content, which contains this KW.
A free tool you can use is Sistrix snippet.
Should I get Google My Business?
You should only have Google My Business (GMB) when you have a physical address where your customer can come and see you face to face and it is a very good idea to have it. When you have GMB then it helps Google
If you only have a webpage like me, then should you NOT have GMB.
YouTube SEO – how does that work?
Google owns YouTube but the algorithm is different. On YouTube, everything in SEO must be correct from the beginning, whereas whit normal SEO can you always correct stuff after you make a page live. You can NOT do that with YouTube.
How do I write an SEO text?
Write for the users and think UX
Google has more and more focus on the user, so write the content for the user, think about what you or better what your best friend want to know you and your products.
