Vester Marketing AI Assistant
Hi! How can I help you with your digital marketing?

3 signs your website is nearly invisible on Google

Your website can look professional, function well, and still be difficult to find on Google. The problem is that a lack of visibility does not necessarily show up as a clear error on the site itself. You may only notice it when almost no visitors come from Google, when you cannot find your own most important pages in the search results, or when Google Search Console shows issues you are not sure how to interpret.

What do you see in the video?

  • In this video, I go through three signs worth investigating:
  • You struggle to find your website on relevant Google searches.
  • You get very little traffic from Google’s organic search results.
  • Google Search Console shows indexing issues or other conditions you have not looked into.

None of these signs alone prove that your SEO is poor. But together they can tell you it is time to look more closely at how Google finds, understands, and displays your website.

Sign 1: You struggle to find your website on Google

Try searching for some of the words and questions a potential customer might use when looking for what your business offers. If your website does not appear, it may be a sign that Google is not clearly linking your pages to relevant searches. This can be related to, among other things:

  • the content not matching what the user is looking for
  • the page title and content not clearly describing the topic
  • other pages being assessed as more relevant
  • technical issues that make it harder for Google to find or understand the page
  • missing internal links to important pages

A single manual Google search does not tell the whole story, though. Search results can vary depending on location, device, and the search itself. That is why Google Search Console is a better place to investigate which searches your website is actually shown for, and which pages get impressions and clicks.

What does it mean to be visible on Google?

Being visible on Google does not necessarily mean your business has to rank number one for every relevant search. It means that Google can find and index your pages, understand what they are about, and show them for relevant searches when they are assessed as a good result for the user.

It also means that you are not being found in an AI overview or an AI chatbot, regardless of how many searches and how much traffic there currently is.

Sign 2: You get almost no visits from Google

The next sign is that very little organic traffic comes from Google. Organic traffic is visits from the regular search results, meaning clicks you do not pay for through Google Ads. You can investigate this traffic in Google Analytics, among other places, and see data on impressions and clicks from Google Search in Google Search Console.

Low organic traffic is not automatically a problem. If your customers mainly come through referrals, email, social media, or other channels, Google can naturally play a smaller role. But if potential customers are actually searching for the products, services, or knowledge you offer, and your website is rarely shown or visited from Google, it is worth investigating why.

What should you look for?

Look at, among other things:

  • whether the number of impressions in Google is rising or falling
  • which searches the website is shown for
  • which pages get clicks
  • whether important pages are rarely shown
  • whether Google has actually indexed the pages you want traffic to

This gives a far better picture than only searching for the business name itself.

Sign 3: Google Search Console shows problems

Google Search Console is Google’s free tool for website owners. Here you can see, among other things, which pages Google has found and indexed, which searches you are shown for, and whether Google has registered problems with specific pages. You might, for example, come across:

  • pages marked with noindex
  • pages Google has crawled but not indexed
  • pages Google has found but not yet crawled

It is important not to simply assume that all of these statuses are errors.

A page that has been crawled but not indexed can be entirely correct if the page is not meant to be live. A noindex can be intentional on a page you do not want in the search results, and a page that is not indexed can have several different causes. The interesting question is therefore not only, “Has Search Console found an error?” but rather, “Is an important page excluded from Google even though I want it to be findable?” That is the distinction you need to try to find.

In short: what are the 3 mistakes?

If you only remember three things from the video, make it these:

1. You are not found on relevant searches

This can be a sign that Google does not have your pages in the top 10, has not understood them, or has not assessed them as relevant enough. When you are not found on Google, you are also not found in an AI overview or AI chatbot.

2. Almost no organic traffic comes in

If customers are searching for what you offer, but your website rarely gets impressions or clicks from Google, it is worth investigating.

3. Pages have not been indexed in Google Search Console

If pages that should be findable on Google are not indexed, it can affect your visibility.

What can you do if your website is hard to find?

You do not need to start by changing the entire website. Start by finding out where the problem lies.

1. Check Google Search Console

Investigate which pages Google has indexed, and whether your most important pages have issues. Also look at which searches are already generating impressions and clicks.

2. Examine your most important pages

Ask yourself:

  • Is it clear what the page is about?
  • Does the content match what potential customers are searching for?
  • Does the page have a descriptive SEO title?
  • Are there internal links to the page?
  • Can Google crawl and index it?
  • Is the page included in your sitemap?
  • Does the canonical tag point to the right URL?

You do not need to know all the terms in advance. The most important thing is first to identify where a problem might be.

3. Use an SEO analysis as a starting point

Can Google find your website?

There is a difference between a website existing on the internet and Google having chosen to index its pages. Google first needs to be able to find a URL, crawl it, and assess whether it should be included in Google’s index. That is why a website can function completely normally for you and your visitors, even if certain pages are not shown in Google.

Google Search Console is the best place to check the status of a specific URL. If an important page is not indexed, you should investigate the reason before starting to change random things on the page.

SEO is not only about rankings

It is tempting to ask only, “What position do I have on Google?” But visibility is about more than a single ranking for one keyword. It is also about:

  • how many relevant searches you are shown for
  • which pages Google chooses to show
  • whether the right people find the website
  • whether the content answers their questions
  • whether search engines can understand the connection between your pages
  • whether visitors actually take the desired action afterwards

A website can therefore gain more valuable visibility without necessarily ranking number one for a single keyword.

Who is the video made for?

The video is made for you if you run a small or medium-sized business and have a website but are unsure how visible it actually is on Google. You do not need to have worked with SEO before. The video gives you three concrete places to start, so you can examine your website before deciding what, if anything, needs improving. If you want to go deeper, you can also read about:

Is your website hard to find on Google?

If you recognize one or more of the signs from the video, it does not necessarily mean you need to redo your entire website. The most important thing is first to find out why visibility is low and which problems actually matter.

I can help you investigate how Google finds and understands your website, which pages get indexed, where your organic visibility is falling short, and what should be prioritized first. I look at technical SEO, content, and overall structure together, so the recommendations are not only about individual errors but about what can make the website more visible and useful to your potential customers.

At the same time, I take into account that digital visibility is no longer only about traditional Google results. Content needs to be clear, credible, and structured so that it is also easy for AI-driven search services and language models to understand. This does not mean you need to chase a new type of SEO, but that the fundamental signals on your website need to be clear.

You get direct advice from me and a prioritization of what matters now, what can wait, and what you might not need to spend time or money on at all.

Frequently asked auestions about invisibility on Google

The most accurate method is to check the URL in Google Search Console. There, you can see if Google recognizes the page, if it has been indexed, and if Google has detected any issues that affect indexing.

Organic traffic refers to visitors who arrive at your website through regular search results without clicking on a paid ad. For Google, you can use Google Search Console to view metrics such as impressions, clicks, search queries, and pages from Google’s search results.

No. Some statuses are entirely expected. For example, a page may have been intentionally removed, redirected, or set to “noindex.” The key factor is whether Search Console is flagging an issue on a page that you actually want to be discoverable on Google.

noindex is an instruction that tells search engines not to display a page in search results. This may be appropriate for certain pages. However, if noindex is accidentally applied to an important product page, service page, or other page you want to drive traffic to, it should be investigated.

There is no set timeframe, but the rule of thumb is 3–6 months. Some technical changes may be detected relatively quickly when Google crawls the page again, while changes in visibility and traffic may take longer. This depends, among other things, on the website, the competition, the type of change, how often the page is crawled, and the quality of the overall content.

No. Google Search Console is a free tool from Google.
